Construction Superintendent
The Construction Superintendent oversees all onsite operations for large ground-up industrial and commercial projects from groundbreaking through final turnover. This role ensures strict adherence to safety, schedule, quality, and compliance standards while managing day-to-day field activities on fast-paced, accelerated schedules. The Superintendent coordinates subcontractors, collaborates closely with design partners and project teams, and drives the project to successful completion, even when work must be performed out of sequence to maintain progress.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all onsite construction operations from site mobilization through final turnover for large industrial and warehouse projects.
- Maintain a strong, visible leadership presence on the jobsite and foster a positive, collaborative team environment.
- Coordinate and direct subcontractors to ensure their work aligns with project plans, specifications, and sequencing requirements.
- Manage daily site activities including safety oversight, scheduling, logistics, and site coordination.
- Oversee the quality, productivity, and completion of subcontractor work, ensuring compliance with design and performance standards.
- Prepare and maintain detailed daily reports, including photos, and communicate issues promptly to project stakeholders.
- Support and manage project schedules using tools such as 3-week lookahead planning to keep work on track.
- Adapt to and manage accelerated schedules, including executing work out of sequence when necessary to maintain milestones and early turnover dates.
- Serve as the primary onsite contact for project teams, design partners, architects, engineers, and project management.
- Enforce safety standards consistently and promote a strong safety culture across the jobsite.
- Maintain jobsite cleanliness, organization, and safe working conditions at all times.
- Monitor and coordinate heavy civil site work, including underground utilities, foundations, and structural elements.
- Oversee installation of precast walls, structural systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
- Interpret and apply construction documents, drawings, and specifications to field activities and sequencing.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and company leadership to resolve issues in real time and support successful project delivery.
- Support early shop floor and facility turnover requirements by aligning field activities with critical path milestones.
Essential
Skills:
- Significant experience supervising large industrial projects of similar size to 450,000 sq. ft. facilities.
- A minimum of 5+ years as a commercial or industrial superintendent working on ground-up projects for a general contractor.
- Experience delivering distribution centers, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, automotive dealerships, or large "big box" retail projects.
- Strong experience with civil site work, including underground utilities, grading, and heavy site work.
- Proficiency overseeing precast wall systems, foundations, and structural systems on large facilities.
- Hands-on experience managing mechanical and electrical systems installation on complex industrial projects.
- Advanced knowledge of the full construction lifecycle, from preconstruction through closeout, and comprehensive site supervision.
- Proven ability to manage project schedules, including accelerated and compressed timelines, and to maintain progress under changing conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage multiple subcontractors and trades on active job sites.
- Strong working knowledge of construction documents, drawings, and project sequencing, and the ability to apply them in the field.
- Experience working on accelerated schedules and supporting early turnover milestones.
- Proficiency in project scheduling and short-interval planning, including 3-week lookahead schedules.
- Commitment to jobsite safety and experience enforcing safety standards and practices.
- Familiarity with OSHA 30-level safety practices or equivalent safety training and awareness.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with subcontractors, laborers, architects, engineers, and project management teams.
