7 or more years of controls engineering experience within a machine tool, CNC, or precision industrial manufacturing environment
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on engineering experience will be considered
Strong experience with both controls software and controls hardware design in a manufacturing setting
Proficiency in PLC programming with solid ladder logic and structured text skills
Strong experience with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley platforms including Step 7, TIA Portal, Sinumerik 840D, Studio 5000, and Factory Talk
Hardware design knowledge including electrical, pneumatic, and fluid-related controls systems; EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical experience required
Solid understanding of industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Canbus, RS232, and RS485
Strong problem-solving ability, customer communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with project and mechanical engineering teams
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as project needs require
Robotics-focused backgrounds are not a fit for this position
Responsibilities of the Controls Engineer:
Lead controls engineering activities across both software and hardware for high-precision honing and machine tool systems
Design, modify, and support electrical, pneumatic, and fluid-related controls systems for new and existing machinery
Develop, write, troubleshoot, commission, debug, and run off machine controls with minimal supervision
Partner with mechanical engineering and project management on design decisions, project timelines, and technical execution
Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings to support implementation, revisions, and system optimization
Support motion control integration, network communications, and machine startup through final customer acceptance
Interface directly with customers during shop-floor activities, technical meetings, and on-site installation or acceptance phases
Travel to customer facilities domestically and internationally as required to support machine commissioning and runoff
Uphold internal engineering standards, documentation requirements, and continuous improvement efforts
Benefits of the Controls Engineer include:
