Design Release Engineer – Automotive Seating

Location:

Farmington Hills, MI / Warren, MI $45-52/hr.

Our client is a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier specializing in seating systems and is seeking a Design Release Engineer to support GM vehicle programs. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with GM engineering teams while supporting the development and release of automotive products from the supplier side. The engineer will work between the company's facility and the GM Technical Center in Warren, as program and business needs require.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting General Motors programs and a strong understanding of GM's engineering and product-release processes. The ability to prepare and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) is a key requirement. Seating systems experience is preferred, but candidates with strong automotive interior, component, or related product-development experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities:
  • Support engineering and product-release activities for GM vehicle programs.
  • Prepare, document and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) through the GM engineering change process.
  • Work within GM engineering systems and processes to support product development, engineering changes and production releases.
  • Coordinate with GM engineering, internal engineering, manufacturing, quality and program teams to resolve product and design issues.
  • Support engineering changes from initial definition through approval and implementation.
  • Review product and engineering requirements and ensure changes are properly documented and communicated.
  • Participate in technical discussions with GM and internal teams and drive open engineering issues toward resolution.
  • Support program timing, engineering deliverables and customer requirements.
  • Work between the Novi facility and GM's Warren Technical Center as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience.
  • Previous experience supporting General Motors vehicle programs.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing ECRs within the GM engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with GM engineering systems and product-release processes.
  • Strong understanding of automotive product development and engineering change processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with both customer and internal engineering teams.
  • Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Automotive seating systems experience.
  • Automotive interior systems or component engineering experience.
  • Experience with GM-specific engineering systems such as eMerge and PRTS.
  • Experience working in a Tier 1 automotive supplier environment.
  • Experience with engineering change, design release or product development activities.
