Position: Site Controller – Small Site

Position Summary

This position is accountable for the analysis and reporting of site financial data including sales, cost of sales, margin analysis, inventory valuation and reconciliation, manufacturing performance, manufacturing variances, income statements, balance sheets, operational variances, capital expenditures, forecast/planning and special projects. The incumbent prepares and analyzes the site’s annual financial plan, develops, reviews and maintains control procedures for the business unit, and prepares or reviews monthly general ledger account reconciliations.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the North America Controllership Director and support two small plants with revenue of $75M or less.
  • Manage one direct report, the site accounting associate.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and regulatory reports.
  • Establish rigorous accounting and internal controls; ensure compliance with US GAAP and Valmont financial policies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory valuation, cycle counts, FIFO compliance, standard costs, variances, and inventories reserves.
  • Ensure accurate and timely customer invoicing and receivables valuation, subledgers, and reserves.
  • Record warranty accruals, expense accruals, payables, accrued liabilities and debt balances.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and monitor SOX controls, including self‑testing and owner assignment.
  • Document and support all journal entries.
  • Collaborate with plant operations finance/controllers to build reporting for daily, weekly, and monthly operational metrics.
  • Manage working capital, coordinate inventory ordering, and ensure sufficient funding for operations.
  • Assist in preparing, implementing, and monitoring the Annual Operating Plan and financial reports to meet short‑ and long‑term goals.
  • Administer policies and procedures to maximize productivity, reduce operating costs, support lean initiatives, and ensure safe plant operations.
  • Oversee monthly accounting close activities for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Monitor facility profitability, margins, and inventory transactions; identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Conduct statistical analysis for trends, estimates, and significant changes; present findings.
  • Communicate performance variances to the Plant Manager and operational staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational and governmental policies; ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions.
  • Enforce accountability, ethical conduct, and resolve ineffective controls.
  • Provide guidance to other units on accounting, budgeting, and resource utilization.
  • Travel domestically up to 10%, including overnight stays.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent with 7+ years of experience; or associate’s degree with 9+ years; or 11+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, thinking, and reasoning skills.
  • Detail and goal oriented with strong initiative.
  • Decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Leadership skills to influence others and take responsibility.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Accountability for conduct and performance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA.
  • 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software and manufacturing ERP (SAGE, IFS).
