Compensation and Employment
Compensation: $27.04 - $39.91 per hour (dependent on education and experience).
Employment Type: Adjunct/Part Time Faculty (Fixed Term), Grade NE15.
Position Status: Non-Exempt.
The instructor will report to the Transportation Program Director and will be responsible for classroom and hands‑on operational instruction of students in the Heavy Equipment Operator Program. The role is a temporary, part‑time faculty appointment on a semester basis, with a limit of 9 credit hours per semester unless approved otherwise.
Major Duties- Collaborate with department members on program and curriculum development.
- Maintain a record system for student achievement and deliver customized training for local industry.
- Complete instructor training provided by the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
- Prepare and teach courses in both classroom settings and at dig sites, delivering lectures, assignments, and tests.
- Evaluate and record student performance and teach hands‑on driving skills on college‑provided heavy equipment.
- Tutor, mentor, and serve as an exemplary model of professionalism for students.
- Submit grades by the deadline and assess course and program‑level learning outcomes.
- Maintain course documentation such as syllabi, tests, and lesson plans.
- Resolve student issues and concerns or refer them to the Transportation Program Director.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of seven (7) years of industry experience as a heavy equipment operator.
- Associate degree with five (5) years of experience primarily as a heavy equipment operator.
- Current Class A CDL license and demonstrable teaching ability (highly desirable).
- Valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated issued by the State of New Mexico.
- Must pass a drug screening test and successfully complete a Defensive Driving Course.
- Ability to teach on a semester basis; not more than 9 credit hours per semester without special approval.
Adjunct faculty are paid bi‑weekly. Compensation is either $778 per credit hour or an hourly rate. Faculty teaching at least one (1) credit hour are eligible for a tuition‑waiver benefit for up to four (4) credit hours per semester and one class of the Heavy Equipment Operator Fitness Conditioning program per semester. The tuition‑waiver may be transferred to a qualified family member with proof of status.
