Position Summary
San Juan College is looking for a Web Services Developer to help build and maintain the digital tools our students and community rely on. The role supports the college’s websites, microsites, mobile features, and custom web applications, working closely with a collaborative team that values innovation, accountability, and excellence.
CompensationAnnual salary: $65,927.
LocationFarmington, New Mexico.
Responsibilities- Administer the content management system (CMS) including installing updates, implementing new technologies, troubleshooting errors, and maintaining day‑to‑day operations.
- Create and maintain users and permissions for content editors within the CMS and web‑forms systems.
- Update, configure, and maintain web software including IIS and Apache Tomcat across a variety of operating systems, and recommend third‑party applications.
- Apply advanced understanding of current and future technology architecture to design, problem‑solve, plan, and develop strategic technical roadmaps.
- Diagnose and debug complex issues by performing thorough analysis and generating root‑cause analyses for production incidents.
- Create, code, and test responsive web applications, features, and sites on development servers outside the CMS.
- Code and maintain content types and layouts in the CMS using web‑programming languages.
- Develop and maintain new web‑based systems to optimize processes.
- Evaluate and improve existing code to meet industry standards and ensure compatibility across browsers, devices, and operating systems.
- Ensure new and existing code meets current ADA and WCAG standards and include assistive‑technology features.
- Guide users in ADA mitigation for documents, video, images, and other media on the CMS.
- Collaborate with Public Relations/Marketing to configure the CMS for efficiencies and workflow improvements, including content‑expiration notifications and approvals.
- Provide recommendations to the Web Advisory Committee on new initiatives such as web‑based mobile applications, CMS redesigns, and Google Analytics reviews.
- Assist the Marketing and Public Relations department with large content‑based projects.
- Develop and deploy electronic forms (Form Site, Unity, HTML, PDF, Gravity) with support for Hyland OnBase.
- Collect and document user requirements, develop user stories, estimate work, define testing strategies, and create work plans.
- Train content managers on the use of the CMS and web‑forms system.
- Establish and promote development guidelines, best practices, and standards for related group websites.
- Manage testing processes, including test‑plans, test‑cases, protocols, and testing environments, and coordinate website testing.
- Identify new systems and processes that reduce workload or improve efficiency.
- Prepare reports, manuals, and documentation on software status, operation, and maintenance.
- Participate in multi‑departmental web projects.
- Develop and support web applications, including web‑based administrative systems.
- Provide seasoned technical expertise, analytical advice, and constructive solutions.
- Evaluate requirements and enhancement requests, proposing solutions with consideration of cost, impact, standards, and compatibility.
- Meet production schedules and deadlines set by the College’s Marketing team.
- Communicate proactively with internal clients on job status, following projects to completion with ultimate client satisfaction.
- Create and edit permissions, Unity forms, document types, and keywords.
- Diagnose and remediate software, CMS platform, and web application issues through code‑level debugging, log analysis, and system configuration review.
- Assist with workflow creation and editing.
- Serve as a backup for SJC software maintained by the Application and Technology Learning Services team (e.g., OnBase, Docubee, Canvas).
- Baccalaureate degree in a field related to the occupational field or equivalent.
- Experience sufficient to guide and assist co‑workers and resolve questions and problems, typically associated with one to three years of service.
- Object‑Oriented Computer Programming Certificate or equivalent, to be obtained within one year of hire.
