Overview

This position is for 1st Shift working Monday through Thursday from 5:00am to 3:00pm. Salary ranges from $40.66 to $44.91 per hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Test and evaluate products to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications, with absolute integrity.
  • Make decisions in the area of codes (including AWS D1.1) and specifications.
  • Interpret NDT reports and accept or reject quality acceptance.
  • Mentor Entry and Intermediate level NDT Inspectors, monitoring and documenting OJT progress.
  • Perform metallurgical testing, including weld coupon testing, positive material identification, and macro examination of weldments.
  • Obtain and maintain advanced inspection certifications (e.g., AMPP (NACE), CIP or Phased Array UT) if required.
  • Reject material, stop work in process, etc., to minimize financial loss and customer dissatisfaction.
  • Work under production conditions, achieving accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits.
  • Maintain essential tools and equipment, including calibration.
  • Participate in department safety, demonstrating excellent safety practices that conform to Valmont safety policies.
  • Maintain timely and consistent attendance.
  • Report to the Quality Engineer; no direct reports.
Required Qualifications
  • A high awareness for safety at all times.
  • High School diploma and 7+ years of work/educational experience, or
    • Associate’s Degree with 5+ years’ experience, or
    • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ experience in fabricated steel environment.
  • Level II NDT certifications, AWS CWI certification.
  • Basic mathematical calculations, including conversion of fractions to decimals.
  • Use of basic measuring tools such as tape measure, calipers, fillet weld gauges, and levels (digital and conventional).
  • Operate NDT testing equipment.
  • Work effectively with plant employees, supervisors, management and customers.
  • Prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Problem solve with minimal assistance.
  • Deliver timely, error‑free results.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years’ experience in fabricated steel environment.
  • Associate Degree in NDT from an accredited school.
  • SNT‑TC‑1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT.
  • AWS SCWI certification.
  • Proficiency in basic quality assurance disciplines, including dimensional inspection and gauging equipment.
  • Other AWS professional certifications.
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts

Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment, moving throughout office, shipping area, and production lines. Exposure is constant to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, and noise levels above 80dB. Tasks are physical: lifting up to 50lbs (most frequently 20lbs), reaching, standing, walking, sitting, using hands, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
