The State of Missouri, Department of Mental Health at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center is looking for a positive, energetic, and caring Counselor In Training to provide services as part of one of our innovative interdisciplinary treatment teams to mentally ill forensic clients. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate compassion and an ability to work in a trauma informed and recovery based environment.

This is a trainee-level professional position responsible for counseling work of a therapeutic nature performed under the direct supervision and instruction of a Licensed Professional Counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist.

Employees at this level perform a variety of professionally supervised tasks including assessment, admission, client counseling, prognosis, placement, treatment, and/or discharge planning functions.

Possession of a provisional license as a Counselor-in-Training.

Lack of post‑secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

• Knowledge of the biological, cognitive‑affective, and social bases of behavior; counseling theories and techniques; and the scientific methods and procedures of understanding, predicting, and influencing human behavior such as statistics, experimental design, and psychometrics.
• Ability to assist in conducting individual or group interventions; and administer, score, and offer preliminary interpretations of test results.
