These positions involve providing assistance to forensic clients with mental illnesses within a secure environment. This is a professional registered nurse (RN) position accountable for serving as a member of the medical treatment team.

RN’s are accountable for reviewing medical records, observing the provision of medical care provided to patients by facility staff, coordinating assessments from other disciplines, incident reporting and investigation. Incumbents oversee and review the work and documentation of LPNs, nurse assistants, and other technical personnel.

General Overview of Job Information
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri’s Nurse License Compact
  • A graduate of an accredited nursing program may practice as a graduate nurse until he/she has received the results of the first licensure examination taken by the nurse of until ninety (90) days after graduation, whichever first occurs.)
  • Assess, observe, evaluate, and record patient’s mental and physical condition and provides treatment staff with information on which to make treatment decisions
  • Develop and maintain nursing treatment plan, progress notes, flow sheets, and other required documentation
  • Interact with patients as a part of the treatment plan, including social, recreational, and treatment activities in order to provide continuing treatment and rehabilitation
  • Intermittent physical activity including:
  • Walking (100-500 feet; may require rapid response)
  • Standing (15-30 minutes in session)
  • Sitting (15-30 minutes in session)
  • Lifting (35 pounds)
  • Hearing (evaluating potentially dangerous situations; taking blood pressures)
  • Seeing (written instructions, patient behaviors)
  • Speaking (in order to communicate with patients and staff)
  • Make quick decisions and respond promptly and appropriately
  • Demonstrate good manual dexterity
  • Proper use of the telephone or any other equipment employee’s use for duty purposes
  • Transcribe medical orders. Administers medications and treatments in compliance with physician orders
  • Assigns, supervises, trains, and evaluates work of ward staff
  • Attends work according to facility policies
