Senior Design Engineer
Location: Farmington, NH
Department: Engineering & Product Development
Reports to: Director of Engineering
Position Overview: Thompson/Center Arms, a leader in American firearms innovation for over 60 years, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our engineering and product development team. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and continuous improvement of firearms and related accessories that meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and craftsmanship. The Senior Design Engineer will play a critical role in advancing T/C’s product portfolio, bridging classic American gun‑making tradition with modern engineering innovation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of new firearms platforms, components, and accessories from concept through production.
- Apply advanced CAD modeling, simulation, and prototyping to optimize performance, safety, and manufacturability.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, SAAMI specifications, and internal quality/safety protocols.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and product management teams to ensure successful product launches.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in materials, tolerances, and mechanical systems relevant to firearms design.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design, ergonomics, and reliability; research and integrate new materials, processes, and technologies to enhance product performance and reduce cost.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and testing protocols to validate design integrity.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing deadlines, budgets, and technical requirements.
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation, manuals, drawings, and specifications for production.
- Work closely with suppliers and partners to ensure components meet design intent and quality standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in product design (firearms, defense, aerospace, or precision manufacturing preferred).
- Proficiency in CAD software Solid Works, Creo, Inventor and GD&T.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, materials science, machining, and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of firearm systems, safety mechanisms, and ballistic performance is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in product lifecycle management, from concept to production release.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
