- Hiring Range: $52,046.00 - $80,974.00 Annual
- Days Worked: Monday - Friday
- Hours Worked: 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m. - Type: Regular, Full-Time
- Assist in the daily operation of the MPO, including scheduling, drafting public notices, drafting and reviewing staff reports, setting and finalizing meeting agendas, and reviewing meeting minutes.
- Assist the MPO Officer in coordinating with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and ensuring that projects are completed within established deadlines.
- Perform professional and technical transportation planning activities: research, prepare technical reports and analytical studies, prepare maps and graphics, perform GIS analysis, and make presentations to boards, commissions, councils, civic groups, and the public.
- Assist in preparing MPO Quarterly Reports; develop updates to the TIP, the UPWP, and the MPO budget for local governments, including invoices and grant fund reimbursements.
- Assist the MPO Planner in managing the MPO’s budget; oversee revenues and expenditures for compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
- Oversee the traffic count program and other transportation data collection activities per state and federal regulations.
- Conduct ongoing community outreach to ensure public input and publicize the MPO’s adopted plans and policies.
- Serve as a member of various staff committees as assigned.
- Operate a motor vehicle for business related to the MPO.
- Attend and present at day and evening public meetings as required.
- Travel to NMDOT, MPO, FHWA, and FTA meetings statewide and out of state to represent the MPO.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Report directly to the MPO Officer.
- Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program participation, including pre‑employment and post‑accident testing.
- Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Extensive background check required.
- Master’s degree in urban planning, city planning, or a closely related field required; emphasis in transportation planning highly desirable.
- Proficiency in urban planning theory, demographic and socioeconomic estimation, citizen participation methods, federal and state transportation planning programs, land use and transportation planning principles, planning program development and implementation, brochure and document production, planning‑related software and databases, scenario planning and modeling programs, strategic planning methods, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and ArcGIS.
- Basic and advanced statistics and mathematical calculations; strong English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn, ability to follow written and oral instructions, strong time‑management and organizational skills, diplomacy, and ability to uphold ethical standards and professional objectivity.
- Work primarily in office; occasional outdoor work inspecting land‑use developments and construction sites.
- Requires hand‑eye coordination, manual dexterity, occasional standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Office environment usually quiet; field work moderate noise.
- Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions and airborne particles.
- Work may involve outside weather conditions.
