- Technical High School Intern to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Radar ISR Systems department 05343 is seeking an early career intern to join our motivated team of scientists and engineers who innovate technical solutions to address urgent challenges to our national security where they can learn and execute as part of the Radar Sensor Engineering team! As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to realize complex systems and deliver differentiating new capabilities to meet emerging national security challenges, all the while advancing the state of the art.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Team with engineers to analyze, design, and develop radar systems, subsystems, and modules
- Help with system-level design and integration
- Perform system test and qualification
- Troubleshoot hardware and software designs
- Learn how research activities support program needs
Candidates are expected to meet and maintain minimum GPA requirements while gaining experience and understanding in the application of principles, concepts, and practices related to RF/microwave systems. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Attending a local high school
- Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Minimum 16 years of age
- U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.
- GPA of 3.5 or better
- Experience with system thinking and scientific approaches to problem solving
- Background in the fundamentals of STEM applications
- Innovative problem solving skills
- Ability to work well with others with a positive attitude
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
- Experience with hardware or software design principles
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to determine root cause failure in complex systems
- Good technical communications skills -- in conversation, presentation, and writing

Through close collaboration, across our organization, our department supports the full spectrum of system definition, design, and delivery of fully mission capable Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems to our strategic partners, with direct impact to our national security missions.
