Summary of Position

The Network Administrator II provides independent, mid-level administration, support, and enhancement of the enterprise network infrastructure. This role is responsible for resolving complex network issues, supporting security and availability objectives, and assisting with the design and implementation of network improvements. The position serves as a technical escalation point for Network Administrator I staff and supports senior engineers on larger initiatives. Systems supported include LAN/WAN, firewalls, wireless, enterprise voice, remote access, and VPN technologies.

This position participates in an on-call rotation and may require limited travel.

  • Independently administer, support, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure to ensure reliability, security, and performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks, and connectivity across multiple sites.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network devices including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, and related platforms.
  • Support network security controls including firewall policies, VPN configurations, logging, and monitoring solutions.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and upgrade of network systems, circuits, and services under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Support redundancy, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies for network services.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and security using enterprise monitoring and logging tools; review and analyze logs as required.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation including diagrams, configurations, and change records.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot network circuits, hardware, and services.
  • Participate in change management activities, including planning, testing, and implementation of network changes.
  • Manage incidents and service requests through the IT Service Management (ITSM) system in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Network Administrator I staff.
  • Participate in scheduled on‑call rotation and after‑hours maintenance as required.
  • Participation in after‑hours work and on‑call rotation is required.
Necessary Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically 3–5 years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
  • Working knowledge of routing, switching, firewall administration, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise networking platforms such as Cisco, Palo Alto, or comparable vendors.
  • Familiarity with LAN/WAN, WLAN, remote access, and network security concepts.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, PCNSE, or equivalent are preferred or in progress.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues independently.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to frequently sit with frequent forward bending and occasional rotation. The employee must be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to push or pull up to 45 pounds horizontally. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
