I. Position Function SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Safety and Security Manager, the Safety and Security Officer performs a variety of safety and security tasks to limit chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic risks to workers, and to protect NAPI property by maintaining a high visibility (presence) to deter illegal and inappropriate actions, observing (either directly, through patrols, or by watching alarm systems or surveillance cameras) for signs of crime, fire or disorder and then taking action and reporting any incidents to NAPI and emergency services as appropriate.

Safety Duties & Responsibilities
  • Respond to reports of accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases and investigate the incident to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Administer First Aid treatment, as needed, when reporting to accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases.
  • Administer testing for the presence of alcohol in employees using the appropriate detecting device.
  • Write reports of accidents, injuries, or other incidents for documentation and reporting to designated agencies (NNOSHA, Workers Compensation, etc.).
  • Maintain all required environmental records and documentation.
  • Supply, operate, or maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment, or other safety equipment such as hearing protection and respirators are accessible to employees.
  • Provide training and ensure proper use of PPE is being practiced among all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Escort individuals to specified locations for medical treatment or drug testing, when needed.
  • Operate detecting devices (such as BAC testing) to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
  • Inspect, adjust, and calibrate detecting devices, equipment, or machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
  • Test workplaces for environmental hazards, such as exposure to radiation, chemical, or biological hazards, or excessive noise.
  • Research and review specifications for the purchase of safety equipment to ensure that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
  • Report the results of environmental contaminant analyses and recommend corrective measures to be applied.
  • Examine credentials, licenses, or permits to ensure compliance with licensing requirements (i.e. DDC, confined space, etc.).
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health or safety.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day and seven days a week during the season, or when necessary.
Security Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Patrol industrial or commercial premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations or to provide personal protection.
