Automotive Technology Teacher

The Career and Technical Institute (CTI) is seeking an enthusiastic, industry-experienced Automotive Technology Teacher to inspire and prepare the next generation of automotive professionals. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about the automotive industry, committed to student success, and eager to bring real-world experience into the classroom. Our students learn through hands-on, project-based instruction aligned with current industry standards while developing the technical, employability, and leadership skills needed for careers and postsecondary education.

Terms of employment include a full-time, 10-month, tenure track assignment with a competitive salary and a full complement of health benefits. The position reports to the Principal.

Qualifications, experience, and competencies include:

  • Minimum of four years of recent full-time experience in the automotive repair industry
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics, repair procedures, and modern vehicle technologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment
  • New York State CTE Teaching Certification in Automotive Technology, or eligibility to obtain certification
  • ASE Master Technician Certification or multiple ASE certifications
  • Experience using diagnostic scan tools and computerized vehicle systems
  • Experience teaching, mentoring apprentices, or training employees
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle technology
  • Knowledge or experience using Snap-on Tools

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in automotive technology to high school students
  • Teaching automotive systems including engine performance and repair, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, manual and automatic transmissions, and preventative maintenance and inspections
  • Integrating safety procedures and OSHA standards into daily instruction
  • Preparing students for industry-recognized certifications, including ASE Entry-Level certifications
  • Developing lesson plans aligned with New York State CTE learning standards
  • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assessing student learning using both performance-based and written assessments
  • Maintaining an organized, safe, and industry-standard automotive laboratory
  • Collaborating with colleagues, school counselors, and industry partners
  • Participating in advisory committees, professional development, SkillsUSA, work-based learning opportunities, and student leadership activities
  • Fostering professionalism, teamwork, communication, and workplace readiness

Salary: $60,307 - $85,536 approximate (BOCES Faculty Association contract)
