Research Services & Artificial Intelligence Librarian
Longwood University invites applications for a Research Services & Artificial Intelligence Librarian in the Greenwood Library. In addition to traditional academic librarian responsibilities, the Research Services & Artificial Intelligence Librarian is a dynamic role responsible for supporting Longwood University's engagement with AI in research and instruction. Reporting to the Dean of Greenwood Library, this position serves as the primary coordinator for the library's AI literacy initiatives, developing structured programming to help students and faculty navigate the ethical, informational, and educational implications of machine learning in higher education.
Responsibilities:
- Provide reference and research consultation across disciplines.
- Teach information literacy, including AI literacy, and research skills through workshops and classroom instruction.
- Participate in collection development.
- Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and resource integration.
- Facilitate the creation and adoption of low- and no-cost course materials.
AI Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of the library's AI literacy initiatives, including workshops, research guides, and course-integrated instruction focused on the ethical and effective use and critical evaluation of AI.
- Stay current with rapid developments in AI and emerging technologies, communicating key trends and recommendations to library staff and campus partners.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders, such as Information Technology Services (ITS), the Digital Education Collaborative (DEC), Office of Student Conduct & Integrity, and the Center for Faculty Enrichment (CAFE), to contribute to university-wide AI policies and digital initiatives.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
- Demonstrated experience with library research support and instruction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technological concepts to non-expert audiences.
- Knowledge of AI tools (e.g., language models, citation generators, AI-based research tools).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI, particularly regarding bias, transparency, and intellectual property.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing technological environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing AI-related services within a research or academic library setting.
- Second graduate degree in a relevant academic discipline.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. The anticipated salary range for this position will be $59,000 to $63,000 annually. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. Ameri Corps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
