Description
We are looking for an Environmental Construction Specialist to work on electric utility construction projects. This field position requires experience with environmental compliance for land clearing and linear construction projects, and the ability to work independently in outdoor environments.

- Provide environmental compliance and construction oversight on transmission site development and linear transmission line projects for Duke Energy
- Oversee compliance and inspections related to NPDES, SWPPP, and other regulatory permits
- Ensure compliance with wetland, protected species, debris disposal, soil disturbance, and other environmental regulations
- Document pre‑ and post‑work field conditions to confirm permit and regulatory compliance
- Perform erosion and sediment, stormwater management, and pollution prevention inspections
- Interpret complex plans and drawings
- Maintain good public relations in the field
- Attend pre‑construction, constructability, and status meetings
- Manage site development crews and oversee sediment and erosion control contractors
- Ensure crews identify wetlands and sensitive areas before entering them
- Monitor and report project status and billing to project management
- Communicate daily with utility clients, contractors, landowners, and the public
- Assist in developing recommendations for future right‑of‑way maintenance
- Drive a company vehicle to work locations safely
- Assume additional duties as assigned
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction management, building science, or a related field
- 1–5 years of site development or permitting experience for utility construction
- Solid understanding of NPDES CGP Stormwater and SWPPP implementation and inspections
- Certified Erosion and Sediment/Stormwater Inspector (FSESCI, CESSWI, CEPSCI, or equivalent)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Basic computer skills and willingness to work alone in varied weather and terrain conditions
- Background in electric transmission, pipeline, or utility construction
- Advanced SWPPP knowledge and certification
- Experience with GIS and ANSI Z133 safety standards
- Previous construction crew oversight experience
- Māilitary background is a plus
- Bi‑lingual in English and Spanish is a plus
Work primarily outdoors with occasional office time, traveling between sites. Activities include walking, hiking, and operating a vehicle on varied terrain. Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, wildlife, and weather extremes are part of the job.
PhysicalMust be capable of walking up to 10 miles a day, operating a vehicle, and performing manual tasks such as lifting up to 60 lbs. Regular use of hand, arm, and shoulder movements is required.
