Job Description:

The College of Graduate and Professional Studies invites applications for a full-time Director of Budget and Finance / Financial Services Specialist II (00031) anticipated to start in September 2026.

The Director of Budget and Finance is responsible for the management, oversight, analysis, reporting, and coordination of all financial operations within the College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS). Because many CGPS programs and initiatives are revenue-generating, this position plays a critical role in supporting fiscal sustainability through budget planning, financial analysis, forecasting, compliance, and informed decision-making.

Serving as the central point of coordination for all college financial activities, the Director oversees the flow of financial information across the college, including purchasing, expenditures, budget development, forecasting, and reporting. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing multiple budgets, preparing accurate and timely financial reports, tracking revenues and expenditures, ensuring adherence to approved budgets, and recommending strategies to support the effective stewardship of college and university resources.

The Director of Budget & Finance provides leadership in budget management and financial analysis and ensures compliance with university, state, and federal policies and regulations; represents the college and its units in financial matters; and facilitates purchases, budget transfers, and expenditures in accordance with established procedures and supervisory approval.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • Extensive progressively responsible experience in budget management, financial management, accounting, and/or financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with financial management systems and advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to seamlessly manage multiple budgets, projects, and reporting responsibilities simultaneously with accuracy and expediency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Accounting, Finance, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education finance and budgeting.
  • Experience with revenue-generating academic programs
  • Knowledge of state budgeting and procurement regulations.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or similar professional certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge
  • Budget development, implementation, monitoring, and forecasting techniques.
  • Revenue-generating business models in higher education.
  • Financial reporting and analysis methodologies.
  • Tuition revenue, enrollment-driven budgeting, and financial sustainability models.
  • Purchasing, procurement, contracting, and expenditure regulations.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, classified, exempt position in pay band 5. The anticipated salary range for this position is $59,754 - $75,000 annually. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.…
