The Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer.
We are looking for a motivated, dedicated professional who exemplifies strong public-service values and is ready to contribute to our team's commitment to safety, integrity, and community engagement.
Applicants must be Virginia DCJS Certified Police Officers with a minimum of two years of law enforcement experience.
Additionally, we are excited to offer a one-time hiring bonus of $3,000, contingent upon the applicant's agreement to serve with the Police Department for a minimum of two years.

Police Officers perform general police duties in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Responsibilities include routine patrol, and preliminary investigation of miscellaneous rules, regulations and policies. Work requires the exercise of initiative and discretion.
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following duties:
- Operate a patrol vehicle or walks to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order.
- Enforce the laws and ordinances of the Town, Commonwealth and other pertinent laws.
- Respond to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints.
- Issue citations, warnings or make arrests for traffic violations.
- Serve warrants, make arrests, and testify in court.
- Provide police escorts, direct traffic, and perform residential and commercial checks.
- Maintain order at public events and other gatherings.
- Fill out arrest records, fingerprints, photographs, etc.
- Prepare and update conditions existing in street or other public facilities.
- Transport prisoners to prison facilities.
- Conduct initial investigations and secures evidence.
- Inspect vehicles and notify garage of defective patrol units.
- Participate in a variety of in-service training programs.
- May be assigned to crime prevention, special duty, special operations.
- Must show courtesy and respect to the community.
- Perform related tasks as required.
A competitive salary will be offered based on experience and qualifications. Hiring range is $50,000 to $62,000.
In addition to a competitive salary, the Town of Farmville offers an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, VRS retirement (including Hazardous Duty Supplement), short-term disability insurance, paid time off, and other supplemental benefit options. The Town provides uniforms and equipment. A take-home car program is available for qualified employees.
