Overview

The Town of Farmville is accepting applications for a full-time Laborer I. Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, and beginner to moderate skills in maintenance, repair, and/or construction activities. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a good driving record.

• Perform grounds keeping work such as mowing grass, raking leaves, trimming trees and bushes.
• Load and unload equipment and materials.
• Dig and fill grave.
• Perform labor tasks on street projects such as applying and spreading surfacing materials, shoveling rocks, hand grading.
• Use hand tools, simple power tools and small machinery.
• Clean streets, curbs, gutters and culverts; help with concrete work.
• Assist with work on water and sewer projects as needed.
• Assist with trash collection as needed.
• Assist in snow removal operations.
• General clean-up duties at the shop such as cleaning trucks and equipment, cleaning rooms and floors.
• Serve as a look-out to assist driver or operator in the safe movement of the vehicle or equipment by directing traffic or providing direction to the driver.
• Operate trucks, trailers, and light equipment when requested.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Hiring salary is $32,695 with benefits. The Town of Farmville offers an excellent benefit package, including Anthem health, prescription, dental, and vision insurance, VRS retirement, employer paid life and short-term disability insurance, paid state holidays, and generous paid time off.
