Performs routine to moderately complex professional accounting work requiring application of accounting principles in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), GASB standards, and Town policies. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Finance Director or designee.

Essential Functions Core Accounting- Processes accounts payable, prepares and distributes payments, and maintains supporting documentation.
- Manages the Town’s Business License System and related compliance activities.
- Reconciles daily receipts and deposits to ensure accurate cash management and posting.
- Performs general ledger account reconciliations and investigates discrepancies.
- Records necessary monthly journal entries.
- Records daily ACH transactions from bank accounts.
- Maintains accurate financial records of revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities.
- Assists with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Assists in preparing financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Assists with budget preparation, monitoring, and basic financial analysis.
- Assists with grant accounting documentation and compliance tracking as assigned.
- Assists with preparation for the annual audit, including schedules, reconciliations, and documentation.
- Assists in maintaining internal control documentation and ensuring proper audit trails.
- Prepares required reports such as unclaimed property filings in accordance with state regulations.
- Provides backup support for payroll, receivables, and other finance functions as assigned.
- Maintains accounting records within the Town’s ERP/financial systems.
- Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial recordkeeping, and reconciliation procedures. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate financial records, identify discrepancies, and follow established internal controls. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software/ERP systems required. Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal departments, vendors, and the public.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required. 1–3 years of accounting experience; municipal or governmental accounting preferred.
Physical RequirementsThis work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements;
vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
