Role Description

The Public Information Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Farragut, TN, responsible for planning, creating, and distributing clear, accurate, and timely information about town initiatives, programs, and services. Day-to-day tasks include drafting press releases, preparing public statements, and maintaining relationships with local and regional media outlets. The role involves managing the town’s communication channels, including website content, social media, newsletters, and other public-facing materials, to ensure consistent and accessible messaging.

The Public Information Officer will support strategic communications efforts, assist with public outreach campaigns, coordinate responses to media inquiries, and collaborate with town leadership and departments to align communication efforts with policy and community goals.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and distribute effective press releases and official statements.
  • Experience in media relations, including coordinating interviews, briefings, and responses to media inquiries.
  • Skills in strategic communications and public relations to support town initiatives and community engagement.
  • Background in corporate communications or governmental communications, with the ability to maintain consistent messaging across channels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to accuracy and clarity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and represent the town in a professional, impartial manner.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools, social media platforms, and basic content management systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in local government, public sector communications, or community outreach is preferred.
