Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:

This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.

Responsibilities

1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.

2. Responsible for operating a communications console and other related equipment in order to dispatch police and fire personnel and after-hours city on-call staff in response to requests for assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations in accordance with established departmental procedures and policies.

3. Main Police Channel – Dispatch police calls for service. Monitor and log radio traffic generated by police personnel related to calls for service and self-initiated activity. Must handle emergency transmissions and make decisions to facilitate response during high stress incidents.

4. Main Fire Channel – Dispatch fire calls for service. Monitor and log all radio traffic generated by fire personnel related to calls for service and self-initiated activity. Must be able to handle emergency “Mayday” activations and make decisions to facilitate response during high stress incidents.

5. Information Police Channel – Process all informational requests from officers. Handle police radio traffic when the main police channel has emergency traffic.

6. Citywide Channel
- Dispatch calls for service and monitor this channel for after-hours city emergency calls. Must know each department’s/division’s policies for emergency calls. Must be able to notify various contacts for these departments depending on the situation.

7. 911 Public Safety Answering Point – Answer all 911 calls for the City of Fayetteville including medical calls. Must follow procedures for call taking and be able to deal with callers who might be in distress, or some other state that may make obtaining information difficult. Must be able to efficiently process requests from callers who may have a communication disability and utilize services necessary to get the caller the assistance they need.

Must be able to interpret map data when a wireless 911 call is received, document 911 data for statistical purposes.

8. Police Department Business Lines – Must be able to answer this line quickly and efficiently. Duties include transferring calls to the appropriate location, entering emergency and non-emergency calls received, and answering questions in a professional, courteous manner. Must be able to process and prioritize multiple phone calls during busy shifts. Must be able to utilize resources available to answer questions on a variety of topics.

9. Dispatch work includes regular and irregular shift work necessary to provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, (weekends and holidays included), and during inclement weather events.

10. Responsible for entry/deletion and validation of records entered into the Arkansas Crime Information System (ACIC) by following policies created by ACIC.

11. Record Maintenance - Update resource information and perform record maintenance needed for dispatch operations.

12. Respond to requests for service from citizens, common inquiries or complaints from the public, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
