Summary ofJob Duties:
The Farm and Ranch Management (FARM) Instructor is a faculty position dedicated to providing high‑quality academic and technical training on a 250+ acre working farm. The instructor utilizes the farm as a “hands‑on” classroom to prepare students for careers in agriculture and related industries. The focus is modern farm and ranch operations, blending precision agriculture with regenerative practices. Beyond instruction, the position is essential for curriculum development, student learning assessment, and engagement with industry partners to align educational programs with current needs.
PositionDuties:
- 75 % Instruction – Deliver high‑quality instruction, develop and assess student learning outcomes, use LMS across platforms, maintain a safe learning environment.
- 15 % Student Retention and Recruitment – Implement retention strategies, hold office hours, lead recruitment activities in community and high schools.
- 5 % Industry Alignment – Build relationships with industry partners, keep curriculum current with workforce needs.
- 5 % Professional Development and College Service – Pursue professional development, participate in governance, serve on Program Advisory Committees, engage in community service.
Knowledge:
- Livestock and Poultry Management – animal health, nutrition, breeding cycles, biosecurity.
- Crop and Forage Production – seed selection, weed control, nutrient management.
- Regenerative Farming – sustainable practices, soil health, no‑till.
- Precision Agriculture – GPS guidance, field mapping, data‑driven planting and fertilizing.
- Applied Instruction – Demonstrate concepts and coach students in the field.
- Equipment Operation – Safely operate modern farm machinery, teach maintenance and use of technology.
- Ag‑Software Proficiency – Use farm management software and mobile apps to track records.
- Safety Leadership – Instill a “safety‑first” mindset.
- Problem Solving – Adapt teaching plans to farm realities.
- Clear Communication – Explain the “why” behind practices.
- Collaboration – Coordinate with the Farm Manager on student activities.
- Community Connection – Build relationships for internships and jobs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High‑school diploma with at least seven years of documented farming/ranching experience with operational responsibility, OR associate’s degree or higher in agriculture with at least four years of documented farming/ranching experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively and use technology in teaching.
- Associate’s degree or higher in agriculture or a closely related field.
- Teaching experience in higher education (community college) or corporate training.
Salary Information:
$50,000–$60,000
