Job Description
ELEMENTARY LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST
The elementary library media specialist shall be under the direction of the elementary principal. The major responsibilities shall include the following:
- Maintains accurate records for all funds, materials, and equipment allocated to the Library Media Center.
- Is responsible for the evaluation, selection, acquisition, classification and organization of a collection of print and non-print materials individually suited to the school’s particular needs.
- Provides supplementary resources through expertise in production of materials and use of community resources.
- Assists in maintenance of audiovisual equipment.
- Communicates effectively with staff members concerning planning and implementation of curriculum and new/pertinent materials and information for instructional use.
- Recommends organization of facilities, materials and scheduling to provide optimal use of the Library Media Center to best meet the needs of students and faculty.
- Advises staff as to the location and use of appropriate materials to meet individual/curricular needs.
- Provides professional guidance in the use of materials and equipment and in media production techniques.
- Cooperates with staff to provide for the individualization on instruction.
- Instructs students in those skills necessary to become independent Library Media Center users.
- Will submit an annual budget to the principal.
- Provides guidance on the location and use of appropriate materials to meet individual/curricular needs.
- Provides individual guidance in selection of reading, listening and viewing materials.
- Promotes appreciation of literature and reading for educational purposes, for personal growth and for enjoyment.
- Supervises supporting staff such as aides, parent volunteers, and student helpers.
- Works with principal to create a positive image of the Library Media Program.
- Upgrades professional knowledge and skills by participation in professional organizations, in-service programs, course work, conferences, exhibits, and other professional activities.
Contract will be for 198 days.
This position will be contracted for the school year only.
