Summary ofJob Duties
The MUSiC Facilities Engineer will be primarily responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, safety, potential procurement, and installation of the cleanroom and the preparation and interaction of the facility (exhaust, cooling water, DI/RO water systems, process gases, chemicals, abatement systems, and building MEP systems) with the fabrication equipment from installation to operation. The position will work with UA EHS to ensure that the facilities and cleanroom function in accordance with safety requirements and codes, and the requirements of semiconductor process equipment.
The position will work with equipment engineers, process engineers and fab managers to integrate facilities into the various MUSiC Fab equipment in both the Backend operations cleanroom facility and the Main production facility cleanroom at the University of Arkansas. There will be an aspect of the position which will overlap with the equipment engineers such that if equipment is down, the Facilities and Process Engineer and the Equipment Engineer will be responsible for completing maintenance and returning the tool to production.
This position will also support research and aid in the development of low volume R&D prototyping for purposes of advancing the state of the art as well as being compatible with the needs of industrial advancement in the field. The position reports directly to the MUSiC Facilities Manager. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, and the employee must create and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
The position is weather essential and will require being on call (24/7) for emergency response on a rotating schedule. HAZMAT training will be provided and is required for this position.
- Operate, maintain, monitor, and ensure safety of the cleanroom and related facility systems (exhaust, cooling water, DI/RO water, process gases, chemicals, abatement systems, building MEP).
- Collaborate with UA EHS to ensure compliance with safety requirements, codes, and semiconductor process equipment specifications.
- Coordinate with equipment engineers, process engineers, and fab managers to integrate facilities into MUSiC Fab equipment in both Backend operations cleanroom and Main production facility cleanroom.
- Work with equipment engineers to perform maintenance when equipment is down and return tools to production.
- Support research and low‑volume R&D prototyping to advance the field and meet industrial needs.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance; create harmonious working relationships.
- Provide on‑call (24/7) emergency response on a rotating schedule; complete HAZMAT training.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
- At least five years of industry or academic experience in facilities operations and safety.
- At least five years of experience with hazardous gas supply and gas detection monitoring systems.
- At least one year experience working with material suppliers, contractors, and equipment vendors.
- At least two years experience in production equipment installation and related construction.
- At least two years experience in root cause analysis.
- Master’s degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- At least five years experience in a semiconductor process and manufacturing environment with direct experience in a facilities engineering role.
- At least ten years of safety and facilities experience.
- At least five years experience in hazardous gas distribution systems design.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of SEMI organization standards (volume and component standards).
- At least five years of multi‑disciplinary experience advancing process equipment maintenance.
- At least five years experience with thermal and plasma gas reaction chamber, and high vacuum systems.
