Job Description

The MUSiC Equipment Engineer will be primarily responsible for the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, monitoring, evaluation & qualification, as well as procurement of new and used semiconductor fabrication equipment. This position supports production and research operations at a silicon carbide semiconductor fabrication facility. Duties include interaction with semiconductor equipment manufacturers as well as equipment third party vendors. The position will establish close contact with specialty field service engineers to commission and maintain fabrication tools.

This position will ensure that the equipment functions safely and reliably within the various fabrication process modules. The position will assist with the integration of fabrication equipment into the MUSiC process workflow at state-of-the-art research facility at the University of Arkansas. The position must work across multiple process modules including but not limited to photolithography, thin film deposition (CVPD and PECVD), oxidation, activation, testing & metrology, wet process, epitaxial growth, Plasma etch, metal deposition, ion implantation, and process support utilities/facilities.

This position will answer directly to the MUSiC Facilities Manager. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others at an academic/industrial setting. This position reports primarily on a 7:30 AM – 4:30PM, Monday through Friday schedule. However, additional hours may be required pending operation objectives as well as emergency response.

This position is weather essential and may require being on call for emergency response. HAZMAT training will be provided and is required for this position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in semiconductor processes in a semiconductor industry or academic environment
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • At least one year of experience working in cleanroom environments
  • At least one year of experience working with high voltage equipment
  • At least one year of experience working with compressed gases and knowledge of compressed gas safety
  • At least one year of experience with lockout/tagout procedures
  • At least two years of experience communicating with external equipment vendors, and third party filed service engineers.
  • Experience writing, following, and implementing standard operating procedures
  • At least one year of hands-on and ownership experience with production equipment
  • Experience with semiconductor process equipment facility/utility requirements. Ideal candidate will possess knowledge of installation, commissioning, and operation of process auxiliary equipment.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs
  • Experience following protocol for record upkeep of: equipment maintenance, asset management, permit-to-work and other EHS policies. Ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Manufacturing Execution System, Enterprise Asset Management software.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of industry or academic experience as an equipment engineer in a semiconductor or similar fab
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary responsibilities in areas such as process integration and process development engineering
  • Experience with downtime reduction strategies and tool requalification processes
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of CUI (controlled unclassified information) in a highly IP sensitive environment
  • At least two years of experience with PLCs and control systems
  • At least five years of experience with toxic gas safety systems
  • At least two years of experience with asset and schedule management. Examples include work orders and spare parts inventory

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
