Imagine being part of a team that supports the backbone of the electric grid. As a Structural Engineer – Substation, you will play a critical role in the planning, design, and delivery of substation infrastructure across Olsson's Transmission and Substation team.
In this role, you will lead the structural design of substation foundations, steel structures, and equipment supports, contributing to projects that strengthen and modernize power delivery systems. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, designers, and project managers throughout all phases of project delivery.
This position is ideal for a structural engineer who enjoys technically challenging work, mentoring others, and contributing meaningfully to essential infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Design & Analysis:
Perform and lead structural design for substation facilities, including foundations, steel structures, equipment supports, and miscellaneous structural components. - Project Delivery:
Support projects through all phases including conceptual design, detailed engineering, permitting support, and construction administration. - Coordination &
Collaboration:
Work closely with electrical engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure coordinated, constructible designs. - Technical Leadership:
Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by junior engineers and designers. - Client & Field Interaction:
Participate in client meetings, respond to contractor RFIs, and provide construction support as needed, including limited travel to project sites.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering (structural emphasis). 6+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, preferably including substation or industrial facilities. Experience designing concrete foundations and structural steel systems. Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ACI, AISC, IBC, ASCE). Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
