Role OverviewTeam: Accounting Reports To: Rachel Proctor, CPA – Director, Accounting
We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our accounting team, supporting a select group of high-net-worth families. This position is ideal for an individual with sharp attention to detail, who can independently manage various projects in accordance with tax deadlines and client needs.
Responsibilities Tax Compliance- Supervise issuance of annual tax preparation engagement letters and associated invoicing
- Maintain summaries of expected tax documents and notable transactions for each client relationship as a guide for both the client and the tax preparer
- Manage tax document inflow and organization to support accuracy and completeness of client tax files for use in return preparation, and share with external tax preparer document portals
- Oversee calculation and payment of taxes for extension filings, tax return filings, and quarterly estimated payments
- Handle notices from the IRS and state authorities, obtaining power of attorney to speak directly with them on client’s behalf when necessary
- Upon receipt of finalized tax returns from external tax preparers, perform high-level review for accuracy and completeness before providing to clients
- Communicate results of income tax filings with clarity and conciseness, whether written or verbally, discerning what is of importance to each client
- Process other tax filings for select clients, including Forms 1099, annual franchise tax, and sales tax filings on an as-needed basis
- Perform detailed tax analysis to aid in client decision making (charitable giving, retirement timing, asset sale, etc.)
- Formulate year-end tax projections as applicable to the client’s unique situation
- Review investment portfolio gains at a high level across the client base to ensure proper tax planning
- Collaborate with advisory team and external tax partner groups to adjust quarterly estimated payments if necessary throughout the year
- Transfer relevant tax knowledge to the rest of the client’s advisory team
- Analyze client conversations and transactions to properly capture events with tax implications
- Coordinate with external network of partners, including tax firms, estate planners, and legal teams
- Strengthen various processes to increase organization and scalability of tax compliance and planning, working in tandem with other teammates
- Collaborate with internal advisory team to better serve a nuanced client base and their ever-evolving needs
- Exercise professional judgment related to each unique client and the given situation
- Navigate multiple technology solutions, including client relationship management, tax planning, and portfolio reporting software
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- 7+ years of progressive tax experience
- Public accounting experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
- Experience with in family office or with high-net-worth individuals preferred
