Position: Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration

Overview

Summary of

Job Duties:

The Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration for the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design serves as the school’s chief financial officer and a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team. The role involves budgeting and finance, data management and benchmarking, interpretation and implementation of University policy, procurement support, human resources, IT infrastructure, capital planning, space utilization, enrollment planning, and other activities to support the school’s mission.

The Assistant Dean advises the Dean on financial strategy, resource allocation, organizational effectiveness, risk management, and long-range planning. The position supports the Dean in developing the school’s annual budget and maintains strong working relationships with department programs, units, and the campus-wide finance team.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and make recommendations on budget requests in alignment with state and university policy.

• Provide accurate accounting and reporting of the School’s financial and human resources; support data analytics for accreditation, program operations, and business optimization.

• Oversee Human Resources management for the School; collaborate with the HR Partner on planning and executing a comprehensive HR strategy.

• Supervise one full-time financial employee and have fiscal oversight of designated staff; coordinate with the Director of Information Technology (with dotted-line reporting).

• Promote regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance; foster collegial and collaborative working relationships. This is an in-person position requiring extensive in-person engagement with colleagues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Four years of financial planning and analysis experience
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with written and verbal presentation of financial activity
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring budgets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, accounting or related field
  • Four years of financial planning and operational planning and analysis experience in post-secondary higher education
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing organizational change
  • CP A or similar professional certificate (optional)
  • Director-level experience
  • Experience managing financial operations, accounting, budgeting, and reporting in a post-secondary environment
  • Workday or ERP experience

  • Ability to interpret financial data and translate into actionable insights
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $140,000 - $150,000 commensurate with education and experience
