This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Note:

All City of Fayetteville supervisory positions require employees to demonstrate leadership competencies by exhibiting appropriate role modeling, and setting proper examples. In addition, all City of Fayetteville positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.

The Arts and Culture Director will be responsible for implementing/managing policy and guidelines, cultural activities/programs, budget, public relations, and grants related to Fayetteville’s Arts and Culture Plan, and the Fayetteville Arts Council, including the City's arts and cultural assets and resources.

  • Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; all in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Lead the implementation of the Arts and Culture Plan for the City.
  • Provide leadership and collaboration in community arts, culture, and placemaking projects, seeking community engagement and artist recruitment.
  • Research, identify and seek new and alternative funding sources for public art programs, and implementation of the Arts and Culture Plan.
  • Build strong relationships with artists, other arts organizations, businesses, schools, the media, and other groups.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Department, develop a marketing and communications strategy for arts and culture that promotes the City’s offerings.
  • Create and solicit program evaluations to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion of all members of the creative community.
  • Develop and manage an annual budget for Arts and Culture planning, programming, and capital projects including sponsor ships, private and philanthropic funding sources and grants.
  • Work closely with the City's directors of Long-Range Planning and Special Projects, Economic Development, and Communications, the Fayetteville Arts Council, the Experience Fayetteville Team, and all public and private facilities that foster the programming of the arts in Fayetteville.
  • Prepare bid packages, RFQs, RFPs and City Council agenda requests for contract recommendations.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Fayetteville Arts Council, Planning Commission, City Council and other professional groups.
  • Serve as the staff representative for the Fayetteville Arts Council.
  • Work with other City departments to coordinate the planning, development, budgeting, implementation, and funding of arts and culture efforts through the CIP process.
  • Serve as the liaison to and develop positive relationships and partnerships with regional arts services organizations focused on building the capacity of arts and culture in the region.
  • Collaborate with organizations to attract and retain practicing artists and cultural organizations of all sizes and disciplines to showcase Fayetteville as a premier destination for the arts with the goal of encouraging additional public support and cultural tourism.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding City arts and cultural programs and operations and resolve problems and concerns expressed by citizens and/or organizations.
