Title: Associate/Cashier

Classification: Non-exempt

Position Description

Summary:

As a Sales Associate, you are to provide assistance to customers and handle various duties such as operating the POS/cash register, greeting customers, helping customers locate products, doing paperwork, stocking shelves, and maintaining a clean and organized store.

Our Sales Associates are required to do the following:

  • Provide an enthusiastic greeting to all customers upon their entering the store, or on the phone.
  • Get to know your customers and use their names.
  • Go out of your way to make customers feel important and valued. Give 100% attention to customers.
  • Move quickly to provide fast service.
  • Responsible for the checkout procedures and proper cash handling.
  • Responsible for selling the company’s promotions and offers.
  • Be knowledgeable of all store procedures and processes.
  • Responsible for general cleaning duties, i.e., tidying the premises, sweeping and mopping the floor, emptying the trash can, cleaning restrooms and performing other cleaning duties.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with product dating, and in particular checking for out of date merchandise daily, and tagging specific merchandise with out of date codes, as well as items that need to be discarded.
  • While overtime is discouraged, this position may occasionally require overtime, which must be approved in advance by your supervisor.
  • Be at work and on time for scheduled shift.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

Restrooms:
Floor, toilet, sink, mirror, walls, and ceiling kept clean and odor free. Soap, towels and toilet paper stocked

Trash Cans:
Emptied, clean, and bags tucked out of sight

Doors & Windows

Floors:
Sweep and mop; free of trash, spills and stains

Coolers:
Doors and shelves cleaned, free of stains and spills

Rugs:
Swept and free of trash

Transaction Counter:
Clean and organized

Shelves:
Clean and dust- free

Fast food area:
Equipment and prep areas clean and organized

Back office and cooler kept neat and organized

Coffee and Fountain Area:
Clean and restocked

Merchandise:
Clean and dust-free

Parking Lot:
Swept and free of trash, oil, gas spots, cigarette butts and weeds

Windows & Doors:
Clean; no faded or unauthorized signs

Entrance Sidewalk:
Clean, stain and trash free

Trash Cans:
Clean; not overflowing, and bags tucked

Fuel Islands:
Dispensers and nozzles clean

Squeegies and towels on all islands; windshield buckets filled

Car Wash:
Sweep inside

Have our trash picked up from neighboring properties

Stock, front and face all merchandise

All merchandise priced

Cooler fronted and labels faced

Stock fountain, cooler and freezer

Brew Coffee

Move and build displays

Stock lottery supplies and cigarettes

Control inventory and protect company assets

Accounting/Legal

Proper cash, credit card, and check accountability at end of shift

Basic math computation to count back change. Count and balance cigarette and lottery

Adhere to policies on age-restricted product sales

Inventory Control:
Observe and react to shoplifters and gas theft

Check in vendors and gas deliveries

Ability to operate POS, lottery and other equipment

Attend store meetings

Assist managers to recruit new employees

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Great Customer Service Skills
  • Ability to balance at the end of the shift
  • Retail knowledge
  • Ability to operate Computer/POS skills
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Self motivated with ability to follow directions
  • Highly energetic, as this job would require lifting of at least 25 pounds
  • Ability to perform tasks with little or no supervision

Basic Qualifications
:

  • High School Education or GED equivalent
  • 2 + years retail experience required
  • 1 year of convenience store experience preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Willing to obtain certifications required by state regarding food service, alcohol and tobacco sales
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
