Alarm Technician II Job Summary

The Alarm Technician II is responsible for installing access control systems in campus buildings (CCTV, card access, etc.), installing electrical wiring for security/fire alarm systems, pulling wire/cable, helping maintain the card‑access database, troubleshooting electrical problems with security/fire alarm systems, card access, and CCTV, and providing after‑hours/on‑call emergency support. Regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance is essential, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Responsibilities
  • Install access control systems in campus buildings (CCTV, card access, etc.)
  • Install electrical wiring for security/fire alarm systems
  • Pull wire and cable
  • Help maintain database for card access for campus buildings
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems with security/fire alarm systems, card access, and CCTV
  • Provide after‑hours/on‑call emergency support

Regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance is essential, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I Certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in fire alarm systems, including alarm and detection, notification, sprinkler monitoring, and interfaces and controls for agent‑releasing suppression systems
  • Experience with computer hardware, operating systems, and IT networking
  • Valid driver license in good standing
Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II Certification
  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Experience with low‑voltage systems
  • Experience with installation of access controls
  • Leadership skills
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and work drawings
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and machinery used in one or more of the skilled trades
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge and use of a CMMS/Work Order Management system and associated mobile platforms, if applicable
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as email and spreadsheets
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff or apprentices
  • Advance knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and IT networking or issues…
