Maintenance Mechanic Lead
Location: FDA facility, Jefferson, AR
Employment Type: Full-time; contingent upon contract award
Openings: 1
Pay: $32.84-$37.34 per hour, plus $11.55 fringe benefit
Position SummaryLead maintenance mechanics and perform or coordinate general mechanical, building, equipment, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and service response activities across facility systems.
Compensation note: Shown as Lead Craftsman I-III range pending final classification.
Key Responsibilities- Lead daily maintenance mechanic assignments, service requests, preventive maintenance tasks, and corrective repairs.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pumps, fans, motors, doors, hardware, fixtures, mechanical components, and general facility equipment.
- Coordinate with electrical, HVAC, plumbing, sheet metal, instrumentation, grounds, and other trade teams as needed.
- Review work orders, materials, access needs, safety requirements, and documentation for assigned work.
- Mentor mechanics, inspect work quality, and support reliable operation of building systems.
- Use safe work practices, proper tools, lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment, and site‑specific requirements.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, records, work order notes, material usage, or other documentation as required.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, team members, customer representatives, vendors, subcontractors, and facility personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in facilities operations, maintenance, utilities, construction, trades, administration, or a closely related field.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders, technical instructions, safety procedures, and site rules.
- Strong reliability, professionalism, customer service, and attention to detail.
- Ability to pass required background check, drug screening, badging, security, or site access requirements.
- Valid driver's license may be required for positions that operate company or site vehicles.
- Experience as a maintenance mechanic in commercial, institutional, industrial, government, or research facilities is required or strongly preferred.
- Prior lead experience and broad mechanical troubleshooting ability are preferred.
- Experience with pumps, fans, motors, doors, equipment repairs, basic welding/fabrication, and multi‑craft maintenance is preferred.
- Experience working in federal, government, research, institutional, industrial, food service, or commercial facilities.
- Experience using CMMS, work order systems, safety programs, or formal maintenance documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi‑trade operations and maintenance team.
This position may require standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, lifting, carrying tools or materials, working in mechanical spaces, and performing duties indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. Specific requirements will depend on the final position assignment and worksite needs.
