Senior Development Project Engineer (Data Center Construction)

The Senior Development Project Engineer is primarily responsible for assisting with the design, pre‑construction, and construction activities for data‑center projects.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Development leadership and Project Manager with day‑to‑day activities and responsibilities
  • Manage multiple campus projects, maintaining updated budgets, schedules, and status reports
  • Provide monthly development program and project status updates for executive‑level reviews
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, design, and construction teams to develop master development programs and campus design solutions with capital budgets
  • Handle entitlement and permitting needs for assigned site projects
  • Develop scopes of work for design, construction, and commissioning services; participate in procurement and cost estimates
  • Evaluate and price proposals for design, construction, and commissioning services
  • Coordinate with strategic procurement team on equipment procurement and delivery processes
  • Ensure appropriate submittals are coordinated with site stakeholders
  • Monitor project budget and cost-to-date against overall budget
  • Review project schedules and manage teams for on‑time completion
  • Review and negotiate change order requests from contractors
  • Establish site construction security procedures with the site security team
  • Maintain relationships as liaison with key QTS stakeholders
  • Represent QTS interests in OAC meetings
  • Build relationships that enhance QTS’s position as a leader in data‑center real estate
  • Aid in due diligence for potential new land banks and properties; evaluate opportunities to design and build new data centres
  • Establish and monitor entitlement and permit processes for individual projects as needed
  • Collaborate with internal development team to enhance project‑management processes and protocols
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent professional experience
  • Five or more years’ experience in commercial construction practices, including Lump Sum, Construction Management at Risk, and Design‑Build delivery methods from concept to closeout
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint for executive communication and Excel for budgets

  • Prior experience in mission‑critical data centre facilities
  • Experience managing MEP trades
