The Technician I - OSP must learn and possess the skills required to function as a contributing member of the OSP team. Typically, the Technician I - OSP possesses no experience to one (1) year of experience in the structured cabling industry.
Responsibilities- Pull cables of various sizes through underground duct bank systems.
- Assist crew members in placing underground pipes, manual labor and shovel work.
- Assist in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Lead or Supervisor.
- Keep the worksite clean and organized free from unnecessary hazards.
- Complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
- Work in an outdoor or indoor construction environment (heat, rain, snow, etc.).
- Withstand prolonged and repeated lifting (including overhead), standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, pulling and shoveling.
- Be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and assist in project process improvements.
- Promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
- Possess proven problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to read, write and give oral presentations.
- Interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
- Work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- See and distinguish colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
- Travel within the branch and/or regional territory as needed.
Minimum USD $20.00/Hr. to USD $24.00/Hr.
Qualifications- Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements: Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
- Must be able to terminate fiber.
- Must possess a minimum of six (6) months supervisory and/or managerial experience.
- Must possess and be able to effectively use the tools listed above.
- Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
- Must know the universal communications color codes.
- Must be proficient with the listed tools.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
- Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
- Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves. Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool.
