Job Summary
The Technician II - Outside Plant (OSP) will perform technical responsibilities as a lead member of an OSP team. The role coordinates small groups of technicians, ensuring adherence to company safety and quality standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Pull cables of various sizes through underground duct bank systems.
- Assist crew members in placing underground pipes, perform manual labor and shovel work.
- Assist in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Lead or Supervisor.
- Guide daily inspections and all confined space equipment.
- Oversee all radios and air monitors for projects.
- Assist the OSP Lead Technician with training of new employees.
- Keep the worksite clean and organized free from unnecessary hazards.
- Fully complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
- Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
The Technician II - OSP must withstand prolonged and repeated lifting (including overhead), standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, shoveling, work in outdoor environments (heat, rain, snow) or indoor construction work environments, be self‑motivated, positive, professional, possess problem‑solving skills, able to read, write and give oral presentations, interpret blueprints and other project documents, work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds, see and distinguish colors, read small print, hear audible signals such as dial tones, and travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
ToolsScrewdriver (regular and Phillips), torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, muck boots/water boots.
SalaryMinimum $20.00 per hour. Maximum $24.00 per hour.
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of OSP experience or underground utility work in telecommunications.
- Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents.
- Proficiency with the listed tools.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to operate a variable reach forklift, skid loader and other specialty OSP equipment.
