OverviewExperience Qualification: Construction work experience with a basic understanding of construction methods. Experience inspecting similar projects in federal, municipal, transportation, ports, or marina sectors is preferred.
ResponsibilitiesMain Duties:
- Provide on-site inspection and quality assurance for roadway and structure construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, contracts, and specifications.
- Perform work of basic to moderate difficulty.
- Ensure construction meets contractual and regulatory standards.
- Conduct materials testing and basic surveying to verify line, grade, and dimensions.
- Communicate effectively with all project stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed project records, including daily diaries, photos, and inspection reports.
- Assist in training and oversight of trainee inspectors.
- Ensure work zone safety and proper traffic control.
- Utilize project management software to track and document materials and tests.
- Check materials and conduct roadway tests to verify specifications.
- Provide excellent customer service to the public and stakeholders.
- Complete administrative duties such as timesheets and expense reports.
Additional Duties:
- Obtain necessary certifications and participate in training.
- Support scheduling and coordination of inspection activities.
Education/Knowledge:
- High school diploma or GED.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification required within 3 months of hire.
- Basic mathematics and construction-related training or experience.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
- Preferred certifications: NCDOT-specific, Level II-IV technician experience, with corresponding years of experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in inspection documentation and reporting.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and construction management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency with surveying tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain industry certifications.
- Physical ability to work outdoors, navigate construction sites, and perform inspections in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
Work is supervised but allows for independent work as skills develop. Assignments are received from engineers, project managers, and inspectors.
Requirements- Background check, DMV record check, and reference verification are required prior to employment.
