Job Description & How to Apply Below

A well-established general contractor with a growing federal construction portfolio is looking to bring on a dedicated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support an active VA (Veterans Affairs) construction project.

About the Role

This is a site-based safety role supporting a federal construction project for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), based in Fayetteville, NC. Per federal contract requirements, the SSHO must be a dedicated, standalone position — separate from the Superintendent and Quality Control roles. You'll be the eyes and ears of the jobsite on safety compliance, working directly with subcontractor crews and site leadership to keep the project safe, compliant, and on schedule.

What

You'll Do
  • Serve as the on-site safety authority for assigned federal construction projects
  • Conduct daily site walks and inspections — checking for hazards like improper cord management, ladder safety, fall protection, and general jobsite compliance
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs and incident recordkeeping
  • Coordinate with subcontractors on safety compliance and corrective actions
  • Support administration of site-specific safety plans in line with federal contract requirements
  • Provide safety orientations and ongoing toolbox talks/training for site personnel
What You Bring
  • Minimum 5 years of construction industry safety experience (3 years accepted with a CSP/CHST-equivalent certification or a safety & health degree)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (required)
  • Familiarity with OSHA 300 logs and incident tracking/recordkeeping
  • Prior federal construction project experience preferred (VA, USACE, NAVFAC, or similar)
  • Commercial construction background preferred
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working independently on an active jobsite
