Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
- United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy).
- Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (ACGME, AOA, or other accredited programs with at least five years of verified U.S. practice; physician residents eligible for appointment as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis.)
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and are not independent practitioners; they perform scoped duties under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Additional requirement: board certification (preferred experience: background in urology).

- Serve as Section Chief of Urology for the Department of Surgery, responsible for comprehensive urologic services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Report directly to the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff for all clinical and administrative duties, ensuring compliance with national, local, regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements.
- Supervise all urologists assigned to the Surgical Service as first‑line supervision under the Chief.
- Attend required staff meetings, communicate across the chain of command, and prepare briefings on adverse patient outcomes.
- Maintain clinic productivity, performance measures, quality and patient safety oversight, and lead process improvements and system redesigns.
- Provide clinical management including patient encounters, consultations, documentation, pre‑operative evaluations, and discharge planning.
- Remain privileged and practicing in the specialty field; demonstrate sound decision‑making with complex patients and a high level of accuracy and detail.
- Coordinate educational activities, supervise trainees, and engage in research, planning, and execution of research programs with publication goals.
- Participate in the comprehensive total rewards package, including pay, performance bonus, paid time off, retirement, and federal insurance benefits.

- Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. - Recruitment Incentive:
