Pool Title POOL - Peer Tutor - Federal Work Study Pool Number S102-22 Announcement Summary
Embedded peer tutors facilitate learning by helping students understand assignments and the writing process, connect new information to existing knowledge, and articulate ideas. Embedded peer tutors provide support to students by explaining concepts and solving problems.
Duties
* Share fundamental understanding of course topics with students.
* Maintain regular content with students and offer help.
* Work as a self starter in a virtual environment to identify students who need help on assignments or with concepts.
* Coordinate individual and/or group tutoring sessions F2F, virtually, or by phone.
* Serve as a positive academic role model.
* Keep accurate records of meetings.
* Attend and participate in required meetings and training sessions.
* Maintain productive and positive working relationships with faculty and student support staff.
* Collaborate with faculty and student support staff to optimize student support.
* Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing any notes, handouts, bookwork, or course materials.
* Meet regularly with supervisor to provide updates.
* Maintain confidentiality about academic progress and personal information.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for current award year.
* Have a financial need.
* Not be in default on a federal loan.
* Have not reached Lifetime Pell Eligibility limit.
* Have an eligible Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status.
* Be in a program eligible for financial aid.
* Have at least a cumulative 2.0 financial aid GPA.
* Be currently enrollment in at least six (6) credit hours or more in an approved program.
* Possess satisfactory telephone and customer service skills.
* Good reading, writing and communication skills.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to maintain confidential information.
* Ability to operate office equipment and utilize office computer systems.
* Ability to work both independently and with others.
* Ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
* Demonstrate the ability to professionally, effectively and tactfully provide services to the administration, faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications Full or Part Time Special Instructions to applicants
Candidates recommended for hire are subject to a criminal background check.
Must have earned a P2 in ENG 002 (or appropriate placement credit, or co-req credit) and a B or higher in ENG 111
