Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS: A four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in the assigned area of teaching.
JOB GOAL: To demonstrate leadership, establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, know the content they teach, facilitate learning for their students, and reflect on their practice.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTeachers demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage their students to learn and grow by:
- Building leadership among the staff and with the administration in order to bring about consensus and shared ownership of the vision and purpose of work of the school.
- Making the content they teach engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students’ lives by aligning instruction with the common core, essential standards, and 21st‑century content, including global awareness, financial, economic, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
- Teaching existing core content revised to include skills such as critical thinking, problem‑solving, and information and communications technology (ICT) literacy.
- Facilitating instruction using a variety of instructional methods that are appropriate for students, integrating and utilizing technology.
- Using a variety of methods to assess what students have learned and to help them work in teams and develop leadership qualities.
- Working collaboratively with families and significant adults to adapt teaching for students with special needs and to embrace fairness in the school community and the world.
- Demonstrating ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others (Code of Ethics for NC Educators, NCAC 6C.0601; Standards of Professional Conduct for NC Educators, NCAC 6C.0602).
Serves as a team player and role model for other employees, demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement, and supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑driven focus, and fairness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
Must have finger dexterity and be able to perform basic life operational functions such as kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
