Teacher- NCPK – Head Start – Fayetteville, NC

Continuous recruiting – hiring multiple candidates

Employment Type:

Full-time/Non-exempt

Starting Pay Range: $55, Annually

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 7 am – 3:30 pm, some nights and weekends

Overview of General Responsibilities and Duties

Responsible for safety and well-being of assigned class of preschool-aged children. Teacher instructs in activities designed to promote social, physical, intellectual growth needed for kindergarten. Teacher directs activities of Teacher Assistant in providing high-quality services. Ensure Head Start Performance Standards and NC Day Care Licensing Standards are met to maintain center's highest-rated license by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions
  • Plans and conducts individual and group activities in a safe environment to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment. Formulates long-range plans for current school year, plans and carries out weekly lesson plans, and develops a flexible daily schedule for the children.
  • Develops and maintains accurate and up-to-date records on each child. Reviews each child's progress daily. Ensures confidentiality of records. Administers developmental screenings. Establishes individual short- and long-range goals for each child. Measures and reports child and class outcomes. Keeps parents informed of child's progress through parent-teacher conferences and home visits.
  • Serves nutritious meals and snacks to children, while instructing in proper nutrition and health care. Instructs children in personal cleanliness and self-care practices, such as washing hands before meals, toileting, and brushing teeth. Helps children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books. Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over stimulation and fatigue.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and healthy environment in the Head Start classroom. Ensures the physical environment is conducive to optimal growth and development of young children. Adheres to daily cleaning schedules. Uses equipment and supplies conscientiously. Notifies supervisor of needed repairs or replacement of equipment.
  • Ensure child/adult ratio is maintained at all times. Recruit, train and evaluate classroom volunteers. Maintain record of volunteer time and service provided.
  • Train, supervise, discipline and evaluate subordinate. Ensure time is recorded accurately and regularly on Web Clock. Approve weekly time sheet.
  • Meet with parents to help them learn to foster growth and development of their child. Conduct formal and informal parent-teacher conferences on each child's school adjustment, behavior, and developmental progress.
  • Attend all assigned training opportunities. Participate in outlining career development path with supervisor. Training includes pre-service, in-service, staff meetings, and external workshops.
Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with a Birth-Kindergarten SPII License or be willing and able to obtain the B-K license.

Experience:

Two to four years related early childhood teaching experience. An equivalent combination of experience, training and education may be accepted.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Internet and Word Processing software. Employee must have sufficient computer skills to input and retrieve data as needed.

Certificates & Licenses Required certifications and licenses are:

  • SP1 or SP2 license
  • Current (negative) TB test with receipt
  • Pre
    -employment physical
  • First Aid Certificate within 60 days of hire
  • CPR Certificate within 60 days of hire

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to work conscientiously and effectively with a minimum of supervision, able to appropriately initiate, monitor, and achieve classroom and project objectives.
  • Employee must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background record check and pass post-offer employment and random substance abuse tests.
