Fayetteville Technical Community College is recruiting for a new member to join our Corporate and Industry Training Team and now accepting applications for a full-time Electrical Line worker Instructor!
The Electrical Lineworker Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, and teaching power distribution and generation in the classroom and through hands‑on field training. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policies and procedures, and the operational needs of the program.

- Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction.
- Deliver instruction in overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, including pole climbing, line construction, transformer installation, and system troubleshooting.
- Facilitate hands‑on training in laboratory and field environments, ensuring students develop practical competencies using hand tools, power tools, bucket trucks, and digger derricks.
- Teach, model, and enforce industry safety standards, including OSHA regulations, electrical hazard awareness, fall protection, and emergency response procedures (e.g., pole‑top rescue and bucket rescue).
- Prepare students to obtain industry‑recognized credentials such as OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, Work Zone Flagger Certification, trenching and excavation safety, and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Evaluate student performance through written assessments, practical skill demonstrations, physical performance evaluations, and participation in training activities.
- Collaborate with local employers for needs assessments.
- Plan and deliver comprehensive training in line construction, maintenance, operations, and de‑energized line work.
- Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevance and consistency with industry best practices.
- Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, academic progress, certifications, and compliance documentation in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom and laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventive and routine maintenance promptly.
- Ensure the safety of instructors and students by working with the FTCC OSHA Services Coordinator to ensure compliance with all OSHA and DOT requirements.
- Ensure regular safety inspections for all aspects of the class are completed as required.
- Ensure all instructors and students adhere to the safety policies and procedures in place.
- Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
- Maintain training equipment, tools, and facilities to ensure a safe, functional, and industry‑relevant learning environment.
- Provide real‑world demonstrations of lineworker tasks, including pole climbing, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Assist with the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, equipment, and supplies, and recommend these resources to the Department Chair and/or Dean of Corporate and Industry Training.
- Promote safety by teaching and modeling OSHA regulations, National Electrical Safety Code standards, and other industry guidelines.
- Support student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts by providing mentorship, career guidance, and industry insight.
- Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established templates, providing students with appropriate information concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria.
- Remain current on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements.
- Create a student‑centered environment for on‑campus and off‑campus students.
- Work toward operational excellence through continuous improvement of processes and engagement with advisory committees.
