Job DescriptionA substitute teacher for Northampton County Schools must have a high school diploma and have successfully completed the Effective Teacher Training Course, providing a certificate of completion as proof. Retired or former educators are also eligible to apply for substitute positions.
Position OverviewSubstitute teachers provide classroom instruction, follow lesson plans, support student learning, and help maintain regular classroom routines in the absence of the permanent teacher. They play a critical role in ensuring continuity and a positive learning environment throughout the school day.
Core Qualifications- High school diploma or GED is required for all substitute teaching applicants.
- Completion of the Effective Teacher Training Course is mandatory for non-certified applicants. Proof of course completion (certificate) must be provided during the application process.
- Retired or former educators with previous teaching experience are encouraged to apply, regardless of certification status.
- Candidates must meet any district-specific requirements, which may include age limits, background checks, and health screenings as mandated by North Carolina state law.
- Implement lesson plans as directed by the permanent teacher or school administration.
- Support students’ academic progress and manage classroom behavior effectively.
- Maintain an inclusive, safe, and positive classroom environment.
- Communicate with school staff as needed to fulfill instructional and administrative duties.
- Submit proof of high school diploma or GED.
- Provide a certificate verifying completion of the Effective Teacher Training Course.
- Retired or former educators should document previous teaching credentials or relevant experience.
- Pass district-level background checks and screenings.
- Strong classroom management and time management abilities
