Piper Companies is seeking a Building Automation Controls Engineer to support a leading building technologies integrator in the Raleigh-Durham (RTP) area
. The Building Automation Controls Engineer will focus on designing, programming, and troubleshooting Desigo-based building automation systems while also leveraging experience with additional BMS or PLC platforms to support complex customer environments. This opportunity is with an established player in the building automation / smart buildings industry.
- Design, program, and commission Siemens Desigo building automation systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- Integrate and support additional BMS platforms (such as Tridium, Alerton, or Distech) and/or PLC platforms (such as Rockwell or Siemens) for multi-system environments.
- Perform onsite startup, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of HVAC, lighting, and related control systems across customer sites in the RTP area.
- Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and customers to review control sequences, submittals, and system architecture while ensuring project milestones are met.
- Provide ongoing technical support, diagnostics, and minor upgrades to existing control systems, including documentation and as-built updates.
- 5–10 years of hands‑on experience with Siemens Desigo building automation systems; or 1–2 years of Desigo experience combined with 5–10 years of experience in other BMS or PLC platforms (Tridium, Alerton, Distech, Rockwell, or Siemens PLCs).
- Strong understanding of building automation fundamentals, including HVAC control strategies, I/O, networking, BACnet, Modbus, or similar communication protocols.
- Proven background in programming, configuring, and commissioning building automation or PLC‑based control systems in commercial or industrial settings.
- Ability to work primarily onsite in the RTP / Raleigh-Durham, NC area, including occasional travel to regional customer facilities as project needs arise.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with end users, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000/year (USD)
