Position Overview
This role directly supports the Process Controls Manager and the process controls group by developing and improving the performance of control processes and technologies. The incumbent provides direction for the group, works with leadership to develop new applications and tools, and documents standards while interfacing with the manufacturing network to promote cutting‑edge technologies and data analysis.
Key Responsibilities- Understand and design HMI and controls platforms, documenting changes for manufacturing and technical teams.
- Develop instruction code for Allen Bradley PLC, Emerson Delta V, and equivalent control systems.
- Create programs to support project implementations across multiple remote sites and collaborate with project and program managers.
- Investigate new instruments and programming technologies, develop testing protocols, and validate viability for integration into the existing process controls structure.
- Diagnose and resolve networking issues at IT and IoT levels.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, adaptability, and effective problem‑solving while providing calm confidence.
- Collaborate with remote sites in a matrixed environment to recover from process incidents or introduce new installations.
- Develop standards and protocols to standardize equipment and methods used in plant control systems.
- Lead and participate in project teams that design and specify instrumentation and controls equipment.
- Provide senior‑level support for instrumentation and controls activities, communicating virtually with technicians and senior management.
- Develop software upgrade programs and manage DCS reliability with minimal downtime within a matrixed supply chain.
- Assist the controls engineering manager with reliability calculations for safety instrumentation and documentation for safety standard committees.
- Apply knowledge of batching systems and manufacturing execution systems.
- Communicate clearly the issues involved and proposed solutions.
- Support regional specialists in troubleshooting and corrective actions.
- Apply mathematical analysis to design AI‑driven models for process improvement.
- Experience with Twin Thread or similar machine analysis software is desirable.
The position reports to the Process Controls Manager, part of the Americas Engineering Team.
Scope of ResponsibilitySupport the Process Controls Manager in developing new and existing control assets, managing control projects, and introducing new technologies across the Americas.
Job Qualifications & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience.
- Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Solid understanding of control system architecture and programming.
- Experience managing controls programs.
- Knowledge of industrial networks such as Modbus, fieldbus, and Device Net.
- Ability to work remotely with multiple sites to troubleshoot emerging issues.
- Basic understanding of CMMS (e.g., SAP PM) and network infrastructure.
- Experience developing standards and documenting procedures.
- Skill in updating controls documentation using appropriate symbols.
- Effective communication with site maintenance personnel, vendors, and upper management.
- Experience with batch and continuous chemical manufacturing processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include additional experience with Twin Thread or similar machine analysis software, advanced degrees, or certifications in control systems.
