Fayetteville Division Design Construct Unit (DDC).
Assist with preparation of preliminary highway design; final highway construction plans and estimates of quantities on complex projects. Required high-level skills in preparation of design plans with advanced computer Open Roads Designer (ORD) and Project Wise proficiency and thorough understanding of complex design techniques and procedures. Must have knowledge of NCDOT Design Principles, Roadway Design Manual, AASHTO Guidelines, Bridge Policy, NCDOT Standard Specifications, NCDOT Standard Drawings and all phases of roadway plan preparations.
Possess ability to plan, develop, schedule, track, and complete projects independently or with limited supervision. Assist higher-level engineers in creation, training and support in computer systems, applications, and configurations. Require detailed understanding of underlying technical computer systems, applications and configurations that automate ORD and Project Wise processes. Senior technician instrumental in training lower-level technicians in both design and computer techniques.
Perform related duties as required. Additional expectations: knowledge of principles and practices of Civil Engineering, construction methods, materials, and equipment. Skill in operating computer systems and CADD coordination. Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts, interpret construction plans, provisions, standards, and specifications. Ability to train, coordinate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and the public. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Computer experience with office software and drafting software.
- Knowledge of mathematical functions such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
- Experience taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.
Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven (7) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SalaryGrade NC14: $52,592 - $92,036
