Woolpert is hiring a Project Manager to join our dynamic Transportation Team in either the Dayton or Columbus office. This role reports to the Transportation Practice Leader and supports existing project managers with the execution of projects; it also prepares candidates to manage future projects. Projects are typically for local government clients (LPA projects) and the Project Manager will lead overall project execution while also serving as a technical lead on portions of the project.

Position Overview

Woolpert is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the state where the job is located.

Qualified candidates may be eligible for a signing bonus of up to $5,000, based on experience and role alignment. Bonus eligibility is contingent upon 12 months of service and must be repaid if the employee leaves the company within one year of hire.

What You Will Do
  • Lead project teams through the development of preliminary engineering, detailed design, and quantification of transportation projects.
  • Lead or assist in designing complex roadway and transportation projects requiring creative solutions, including roadway, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, multi‑modal transportation or transportation planning.
  • Perform engineering design tasks such as highway and street design, roadway alignments, roundabout design, roadway grading and modeling, curb ramp design, signing and pavement plan, maintenance of traffic, and storm drainage.
  • Use design software including Micro Station, Open Roads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
  • Respond to requests for proposals by leading proposal development and preparing scope, schedule and budget.
  • Ensure deliverables and quality standards are met in accordance with agreed scope, schedule and budget.
  • Manage and support internal and client cross‑functional teams.
  • Leverage existing and new client and consultant relationships to pursue new work.
  • Actively participate in professional societies, organizations, and conferences, including serving on boards and presenting at industry events.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or the ability to obtain an Ohio PE license within one year of hire.
  • 5–15 years of experience in transportation design, preferably with roadway expertise.
  • Willingness to travel 5–10% to client sites.
  • Knowledge of ODOT Project Development Process, construction documentation & administration, and familiarity with state and local municipal design processes.
  • Experience with Bentley Open Roads Designer or Civil 3D.
  • Strong leadership, organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, offering constructive feedback and direction to support goals.
Pay Range

$101,200—$126,500 USD
