Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – First Class Cabin Interiors Seating (Onsite, Winston Salem, North Carolina)

Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD

• Design ownership of product life‑cycle, including initial concept through production and product support.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability and maintainability.
• Perform engineering calculations to determine the size and strength of components.
• Solve design problems and check computations to support analytical design decisions.
• Prepare, modify and release 2D & 3D CAD data (Siemens NX) to verify fit, form and function of mechanical designs.
• Verify structural acceptability of designs by providing engineering support for testing of prototypes for reliability and FAA certification through static and dynamic testing.
• Utilize engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA and DFMA to validate design data.
• Evaluate materials and parts for use in new designs and communicate with current and new suppliers.
• Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions.
• Conduct and participate in cross‑functional design reviews.
• Prepare and present data, layouts, sketches and notes for design proposals.
• Investigate pertinent design factors such as process selection, tooling needs, material and equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, and strength‑weight efficiency.
• Design within contractual specification requirements and cost targets.

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
• Experience in design using Siemens NX or other 3‑D CAD software.
• Experience working with Teamcenter or other Product Data Manager (PDM) tools.
• Previous design experience in the aerospace or automotive industries is required.

• Prior experience in the design of mechanical components and systems for commercial aircraft seating products.
• Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
• Familiarity with FAA requirements regarding certification, configuration and change management.
• Experience with surfacing, plastic part and composite part design.
